on american soil. the uc berkeley graduate thanked the government and religious leaders for releasing her. and then she spent time talking about her fiancee and her friend. >> my disappointment in not sharing this with shane and josh was crushing. and i stand before you one third free. >> the iranian president, ahmadinejad, [inaudible] and in return the released of prisoners. then they showed the mothers of the two men pleading with ahmadinejad in a video. >> we thank you for bringing sarah home. but now it is time to bring josh and shane home. >> we want people to be free and not suffer. but at the end of the day there is a law who stays in prison and who does not. >> i ran has issued espionage

charges. they accuse them of crossing the iran-iraq border which shourd said was unmarked and inextinguishable during their hiking trip. >> we committed no crime, and we are not spies. we in no way intended any harm to the iranian government or its people. >> shourd said before this whole ordeal she was an english teacher living as a journalist. their friend traveled to visit them. she plans to talk more about their past in the days and weeks ahead. >> by learning who we are and how we came to be in this diverse and fascinating region of the world directly from my lips, it will help clear up any doubt and end shane and josh's detention. >> uc berkeley professor ken light is among those here in the bay area holding out hope. light was one of bower's journalism professors. >> the longer it drags on, the more we have to worry about them, their health, their mental health as well.

>> president ahmadinejad is in new york for the start of the annual united nations general assembly. the mothers requested a meeting with him. no word yet on his decision. alan? >> lilian kim reporting. developing news in utah where a massive wildfire has destroyed at least two homes and forced the evacuation of more than a thousand people. the grass fires closing in on the town southwest of salt lake city. the fire's exact size is still unknown. it was started by a spark in a firing range where national guard soldiers were training. >> pg&e could released a list of the 100 riskest pipelines as soon as tomorrow. it comes as pressure from federal and state leaders including governor schwarzenegger. pg&e refused revealing the site because of national security concerns. clean up in san bruno could start on thursday. the demolition and clean up is expected to take one day per property. this afternoon people came together for a benefit concert

at cappucino high school. the donations and money raised all going to victims of the fire. abc7's cecilia vega reports from san bruno. >> construction crews boarded up the final windows in a blast zone where the only thing left standing is rubble. but in a high school field a few miles from the de destruction, there are signs that this is a community still standing strong. >> 15-year-old karina walsh's close friend is among those who lost their home. >> i have a lot of friends personally affected by the fire. instead of sitting around i decided i would do something about it. >> and this is what she did. organized a fundraiser for all those affected by the fire. where every penny raised goes to someone who lost something, maybe everything. >> we did it mostly for victims who come so they can spend the day and just get everything off their mind and enjoy it. >> if the victims of the blast

were here, they didn't make their presence known. but they did express their thanks back in the neighborhood. >> we can start the recovery instead of focusing on the tragedy. now we can start building. >> while the rebuilding may still be years off, the support is here now. >> it is coming in from all over. as far as hawaii and as far as the east coast, people have found out about it. >> in a community where everyone knows someone impacted by the explosion, it also seems like just about everyone is about ready to help out. >> it is a good cause. >> here at cappucino high school money will be collected and be distributed to those fire victims who need the help most. in san bruno, cecilia vega, abc7 news. >> and if you are looking for

ways to help the victims of the fire, you will find a list of organizations working with the community on our website. just go to abc7news.com and click on see it on tv. >> a danville man is in jail tonight after police say they found pipe bombs inside his home and evacuated the neighborhood. police were first called to the home on amigo road after reports of a loud argument. when officers arrived, they learned the argument was over the pipe bombs. 36-year-old eric dennis had three homemade bombs and a small amount of materials that could be used to make more explosives. the bomb squad detonated the devices safely, and the neighbors are back in their homes tonight. >> we don't want this kind of activity occurring with children around. we long for a safe neighborhood. >> hopefully they will keep watch on the house and what goes on because we would luke to keep it a safe neighborhood. >> dennis is in the contra costa county jail in martinez on $750,000 bond. there is no word on what he

was planning to do with those pipe bombs. >> the san jose -- the san jose police officers are protesting the gang unit. the violent crimes enforcement unit is being combined. staffing between the two units has been slashed by a third. union leaders say it will have a devastating affect on the public safety. >> the majority of homicides in san jose are gang-related. we simply will not have the resources to address gangs today like we did yesterday. it is a fact. >> san jose's mayor blames the police department cuts on sky rocketing pension costs. he says the combined task force will still make fighting gang violence a priority. >> there will be some lower level crimes such as homeless encampment removal that aren't going to get nearly as much attention. they will focus on the pry rt yos. gaping suppression is one of

those -- gang suppression is one of those. in southern california, the 32-year-old leader of a small religious sect is being evaluated at a mental hospital. members of her group went missing after leaving behind documents that looked like farewell letters. the five women and eight children were found safe this morning praying in a park near palmdale. they told deputies they had no intention of harming themselves. investigators were contacted by two of the women's husbands last night after finding documents that referenced a journey to the next life and visiting deceased relatives. >> you see me, i'm okay, my son, the dogs, everybody is okay. >> they over -- overreact because we cell phone and don't call them. >> because? >> i don't want them to interrupt me. >> they say their husbands misunderstood them. when deputies found them members say they were praying against violence in schools

and against pre marital sex. starting tomorrow morning drivers on the most congested part of interstate 680 will have a new option to speed up their commute. the area's sprirs express -- express rate will open at 5:00 in the morning. carpoolers can use it now free. solo drivers can use it as well for a fee. they just need a fast track trans ponders. prizes will rise and fall based on congestion. .30 cents if there is none and up to $6 at peak times. it will be open to all driver at nights and weekends. a major milestone in the gulf oil spill. what officials are saying about the blown out well. and then this -- >> the witch craft comment, i was in high school. >> a tea party's comments about witch craft turns into an youernet hit and sparks an explanation. >> and a surprise speaker on the oracle program.

the massive oil spill on the gulf of mexico is now effectively dead. that's the word from the retired coast guard. the well that spewed more than 200 million gallons of oil into the gulf no longer poses a threat. the announcement comes nine months after the deadly explosion sapping a rig leading -- sank a rig leading to the worst oil spill in history. it was finally contained until july, but it took until now to get a plug in place nearly two and a half miles below the sea. delaware republican senate candidate kristine o'donnell is brushing off comments she made more than 10 years ago about her involvement in witch craft. >> i dabbled in witch craft. i never joined a cough ven. >> you were a witch? >> yes. >> i didn't join a coven. >> wait a minute. >> o'donnell made those comments on bill marr's politically incorrect show in 1999. late today o'donnell took the comments in stride. >> the witch craft comment on bill marr, i was in high

partial clearing. a live shot from the high definition rooftop cam. the bay bridge in the background, and the fog is working near the coast, and it will more than likely fill in across the bay by tomorrow morning. here is a look at the current temperatures. antioch at 64. we had 62 in concord. 60s in the east bay. as you get close to the peninsula as well as the coast, temperatures drop off into the 50s. 58 in san francisco right now. napa, you are at 57. and los gatos, you are checking in at 59 degrees. we will go with patchy clouds and fog overnight. dry and cooler con digs will be with us through midweek. and fall uh -- arrives on wednesday. after that as we head into thursday, friday and saturday, the temperatures will climb back into the 90s as we head into the latter part of the workweek. temperatures in the north bay. you will feel. it mid to upper 40s elsewhere. we will look at the low clouds and fog pushing back out toward the east bay overnight tonight. this is pretty much going to be the set up.

this is the low that brought us a few showers overnight last night and this morning. that has i can cked toward the east. -- i can cked toward the east. high pressure was building in, and it will bring us sunny, mild conditions on monday. as we head into tuesday, the secondary low right here, this is what is going to move in behind the high, and that's what will cool us back down for tuesday and wednesday. those two days will definitely be the coolest of the workweek. we start off at 5:00 a.m. you can see the overcast across the bay area. we had pockets of dense fog and it could possibly slow the commute down. it will go back to just near the coast by tomorrow afternoon. we will look for patchy fog, 60s there, 70s across the bay area. interior east bay locations will warm up into the low 80s. so here is a look at our highs for your monday los gatos 78, 76 for san jose. we will see more sunshine tomorrow. get ready for that. palo alto, 74. 62 for pacifica. san francisco a delightful afternoon at 68 degrees there.

in the north bay, flirting with 80. santa rosa, 77. we will go with 80 for ukiah. oakland tomorrow is 71. 73 for castro valley. in the east bay, temperatures near 80 degrees. brentwood 80. 79 for antioch. concord 77. livermore 78. even santa cruz will warm to 74 degrees, and we will go 77 for hollister. my accu-weather seven-day forecast, just a few more days of summer to enjoy, and fall arrives as we head into the cool tuesday. temperatures on tuesday dropping into the low 70s. inland upper 50s at the coast. and then we are going to get into the warm offshore winds as we head into thursday, friday and saturday. you can definitely see what that means for inland temperatures back into the 90s. >> beautiful. >> thanks, leigh. well, the raiders may have a quarterback controversy in week two. >> shu coming u u u u u u u u u >> all new. it is so hard to believe this is happening here in america. but it is, every day. now, how far will bill gates go to fix it?
